Daniel M. Lavery
- "I narrowed it down to Motti pretty quickly, because I love fussy bureaucrats. Vader, especially in the first film, feels so huge and terrifying and mysterious, and I loved the idea of someone who had to work with the guy on a regular basis and is really sick of dealing with him in meetings."
- ―Daniel M. Lavery
Daniel M. Lavery is the author of the short story "An Incident Report" from the 2017 anthology From a Certain Point of View. Written from Admiral Conan Antonio Motti's point of view, the story is similar in style to Lavery's articles on The Toast, a website which he co-founded.
Biography
- "I first got into the Expanded Universe [now Legends] novels when I was in fourth or fifth grade, and so I'd been waiting for an e-mail like the one Elizabeth sent me for roughly 19 years. My body was ready. I will write for Star Wars anytime, anywhere. I am all in."

Daniel M. Lavery,[2] who was born on November 28, 1986,[1] is an American author who wrote the short story "An Incident Report" in From a Certain Point of View, a 2017 anthology of stories set during[2] the 1977 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.[4]
The editor of the anthology, Elizabeth Schaefer, created a list of her favorite authors with whom she wished to work[5] and invited Lavery to contribute. In an interview with StarWars.com's Kristin Baver, Lavery speculated that Schaefer was aware of his many tweets and articles on The Toast, a website which he co-founded, about the Star Wars Legends character Kyp Durron from Star Wars: The Jedi Academy Trilogy. From a list of side characters in A New Hope, Lavery selected Admiral Conan Antonio Motti and wrote about Motti filing a workplace incident report after he was Force choked by Darth Vader. Lavery said he loves "fussy bureaucrats" and sought to capture his own impulses towards self-pitying and petty grievances taken to Imperial proportions by Motti. Baver and Lavery compared the story's style to his work on The Toast.[3]
