Commissar/Legends
Commissar was a rank equivalent to Minister.
History
During the Pius Dea Era, the Pius Dea, who ruled the Galactic Republic for a millennium as a theocracy, assigned commissars to root out dissidents and other opponents of the ruling regime from the Republic Navy and the Republic Army. By 11,100 BBY, the Pius Dea had launched a massive campaign of inquisitions which led to the mass execution of many disloyal Republic citizens.[1]
A planet known to have Commissars was Grizmallt. In 22 BBY, having been impressed by the design of the Acclamator-class assault ship, Grizmallt's Commissars ordered industrial spies and ship designers to reduce Kuat's lead for new contracts handed out by the Galactic Republic.[2]
During the Galactic Civil War, Imperial commissars oversaw the spice mining operations on the planet Sevarcos II. They had the authority to force prisoners to work at dangerous levels and could strip inmates of their breath masks.[3] During the Second Galactic Civil War, Tyla Praji held the rank of commissar.[4]
War commissar was a title used by the Galactic Empire.[source?]
