Chemical converter

A chemical converter was the basic component of a starship's life support system's atmosphere generator which took in waste elements such as carbon dioxide from the vessel's crew and passengers. The unit converted them into usable materials to maintain life support functions. The converters could be either biological of synthetic in nature.
