Blue Five/Legends
Blue Five was the call sign of the fifth member of Blue Squadron. There were a number of starfighter squadrons with this name, and several pilots went by the call sign Blue Five.
History
A Republic pilot designated Blue Five flew a V-19 Torrent starfighter in the Battle of Rendili during the Clone Wars. Swarmed by Confederate vulture droids, the pilot requested aid from "Blue Leader", and would survive—with the support of "Red Four"—to destroy a vulture droid ahead of the squadron leader.[1]
Another V-19 Torrent pilot, Clone trooper Tucker, flew as Blue Five in the Battle of Ryloth, where he was killed, along with most of his squadron.[3]
Blue Five was the call sign of Ten Numb when he flew a B-wing starfighter with the Rebel Alliance's Blue Squadron during the Battle of Endor.[2] He was ordered to lead the attack on the Executor, and drew enemy fighters away from the strike force led by General Lando Calrissian and Commander Wedge Antilles.[4] He was promoted to Blue Leader shortly after that battle.[5]
Behind the scenes
Blue Five is the call sign given in the novelization[6] and comic adaptation[7] of A New Hope to Luke Skywalker, who is identified as Red Five in the final film.[8]
