Bestal Three was a jungle planet in the Outer Rim Territories' Varada sector. Its flora included the vortal tree, the seeds of which had medicinal properties. During the Galactic Civil War, the businesswoman Alara Fax secured the rights for her company, Fax Ventures, to mine the asteroids of the nearby Kadal Asteroid Field and process the extracted ores on Bestal Three. The asteroid mining also served as cover for the manufacture of efficient medpacs from stimulants derived from the vortal tree seeds.

Description

Bestal Three was a planet in the Bestal system,[2] a part of the Outer Rim Territories' Varada sector.[1] It occupied the third orbital position in its star system and was situated close to the Kadal Asteroid Field. Bestal Three's terrain featured lush jungle, with the vortal tree being one example of the local flora.[2]

History

Alara Fax secured corporate rights to Bestal Three.

During the Galactic Civil War, Alara Fax, the head of the company Fax Ventures, sought to exact vengeance upon her old rival, the SoroSuub Corporation's Varada sector holdings top operating executive Tyanna Tymb. To that end, Fax studied the sector's star systems in search of business opportunities with which she could compete with Tymb. Eventually, Fax discovered the medicinal properties of Bestal Three's vortal trees' seeds as well as the large deposits of aluminite and corax ores present in the asteroids of the Kadal Asteroid Field.[2]

Fax then secured a contract that allowed her company to mine the asteroids and process the ore on Bestal Three. The asteroid mining provided a cover for an even more profitable activity: the seeds of the vortal trees were harvested and used to produce healing stimulants from which medpacs of improved efficiency were manufactured. When Tymb later purchased trade and resource rights for the Bestal system, she discovered the Fax Ventures' corporate rights to the Kadal Asteroid Field and Bestal Three and subsequently became determined to acquire for the SoroSuub Corporation the rights to the entire system.[2]

Behind the scenes

Bestal Three was introduced in "Adversaries: Characters for the Star Wars: New Republic Campaign," a roleplaying game source article authored by Bill Slavicsek for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game and published in Polyhedron 97 in July 1994.[2] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Bestal system, and therefore Bestal Three, in grid square I-19.[3]
