During the first few years of the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire hired the First Sun Mobile Regiment mercenary organization to attack an outpost somewhere in the galaxy. The outpost had been accused of harboring Rebel Alliance sympathizers. The mercenaries destroyed the settlement; however, as Imperial Intelligence had not had time to interrogate the residents, Moff Nile Owen ordered that the First Sun regiment be massacred. They were, and only a dozen or so, including Matt Talon, survived.
