The bass viol was a deep-sounding musical instrument commonly used by jizz bands.[1]
Behind the scenes
"Bass viol" is an older term for the modern double bass, one of the most common instruments in jazz music. The double bass was originally the bass member of the viol family, and is the only member of that family still used today, though over time it has taken on some characteristics of the violin family as well.
