The 223rd was an Imperial starfighter wing stationed on the planet Ord Biniir during the Galactic Civil War. In 0 BBY, Rebel Alliance Y-wings decimated the fighter wing in the First Battle of Ord Biniir, capturing the planet for the Alliance.

The 233rd was a starfighter wing in the Galactic Empire's navy during the Galactic Civil War against the Rebel Alliance. Composed of approximately six squadrons, the 233rd was stationed on the Outer Rim planet Ord Biniir in 0 BBY. That same year, Ord Biniir was attacked by a large number of Rebel BTL Y-wing starfighters in the First Battle of Ord Biniir. The 233rd attempted to defend the planet, but the Rebel Y-wings easily defeated the fighter wing, securing Ord Biniir for the Rebel Alliance. Although many Rebel pilot veterans of the battle later bragged about their drubbing of the 233rd at Ord Biniir, the planet was soon retaken by the Empire in the Second Battle of Ord Biniir.

Behind the scenes

The 233rd was first mentioned in the twenty-fifth issue of the Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron comic series, The Making of Baron Fel, released in 1997. The 233rd later received an entry in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, published in 2008.

The Making of Baron Fel refers to the 233rd as a fighter wing, made of approximately six starfighter squadrons. However, the 233rd's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia entry states that the 233rd was a fighter group, made of about three squadrons. For consistency, this article assumes that the 233rd was a fighter wing, not a fighter group.
