This article is about a subject that lacks an official name and is known only by its nickname, call sign, or alias.

"Wampa" was the nickname of a TIE pilot who served in the Imperial Navy's Black Squadron during the Galactic Civil War fought between the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic. The pilot flew a TIE/LN starfighter under the call sign Black 11 and attained the "Wampa" nickname for icy precision in battle. The nickname was derived from[1] the wampa, a fearsome and carnivorous creature hailing from the ice planet Hoth.[2] By 4 ABY,[3] "Wampa" was stationed aboard[1] the Super Star Destroyer[4] Executor and often served as an escort to the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader's shuttle,[1] the Lambda-class T-4a shuttle ST 321.[4]

Behind the scenes

The "Wampa" nickname was established for the pilot of the Black 11 starfighter on a card for the 2000 Death Star II Limited expansion set of the Decipher, Inc. Star Wars Customizable Card Game. While the image depicts one of the TIE fighters[1] escorting ST 321 during Darth Vader's visit to the Death Star II battlestation in the opening scene of the 1983 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi,[4] there was no confirmation that "Wampa" was operating Black 11 during those events. As such, this article avoids listing Return of the Jedi as a confirmed appearance for the pilot.
