"Unidentified ship, this is Shieldship Nine. Ready to lock; please transmit your slave circuit code."
"Right, […] Shieldship Nine, we don't have a slave circuit. Just give me your course and we'll stay with you."
―The shieldship pilot and Captain Han Solo[1]

A male pilot piloted Shieldship Nine, one of Administrator Lando Calrissian's shieldships, located at the[1] Expansion Region[2] planet of Nkllon,[1] in 9 ABY.[3] When Captain Han Solo arrived at Nkllon seeking to speak with Calrissian at Nomad City, a city located at Nkllon, the pilot hailed them, informing Solo that as his starship, the Millennium Falcon, did not possess a Slave circuit—which would allow the pilot to control the ship—he would need to wait ten hours to arrive at the city. As Nkllon's sunlight would burn his starship's hull if it was unprotected—not covered by the shieldship's shadow—Solo agreed to wait. Shortly after a ship appeared at Nkllon, the pilot informed Solo that both of them would enter at the same time. As Solo was informed by his companion, princess Leia Organa Solo, that the ship was Luke Skywalker's X-wing starfighter, Solo agreed to entering with Skywalker. Following the ten hour wait, the pilot cleared Solo and Skywalker for landing at Nomad City.[1]

Behind the scenes

The pilot first appeared in Heir to the Empire, the first volume in Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: The Thrawn Trilogy.[1]
