Ambassador/Legends
- "I'm ambassador to the Supreme Chancellor. I'm taking these people to Coruscant."
- ―Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn to a B1 battle droid
An ambassador was a diplomatic official accredited to a government, or to an international organization, to serve as the official representative of his or her own government. While the specific powers and duties of ambassadors varied across governments, planets and eras, they typically oversaw any embassy functions, staff and property, and as such were afforded diplomatic immunity. Sometimes when the diplomatic mission was too dangerous, Jedi Knights were sent in their place, because of their negotiation skills. In the often turbulent times of the galaxy, ambassadors played an important role in facilitating cessations of hostilities or expansions of friendly relationships. Ambassadors were also another name for members of the Imperial Senate.
History
During the Galactic Civil War, the Imperial ambassador to Rhamsis Callo was the highest-ranking official on the planet, overseeing relations with the native Schenor. After learning of an Imperial assault on a Schenor research station, nest-guildmaster B'karitz confronted the ambassador and declared the Schenor/Imperial treaty null and void.[1]
An Alliance ambassador met with the Gaddrian ambassador aboard the luxury liner Silver Star. The Gaddrian ambassador was the head of a senatorial faction sympathetic to the Alliance, and the meeting was to discuss the possibility of establishing a fifth column within the Empire.[2]
