The title of this article is conjectural.

Although this article is based on official information from the Star Wars Legends continuity, the actual name of this subject is pure conjecture.

"What is this place?"
"We don't know—it predates the settlement. Obviously some kind of temple…"
―Wedge Antilles and Elscol Loro discuss the ruins on Cilpar[src]

A sentient species once inhabited Cilpar, a planet in the Colonies Region. Before the species became extinct, they constructed numerous temples across the planet's surface. Of sturdy design, those temples outlasted their creators and were utilized by the Cilpari Resistance in their fight against the Galactic Empire.

Society and culture

A temple constructed by the extinct Cilpar species

A sentient species constructed dozens of temples throughout the forests of the planet Cilpar. Those structures differed slightly in design from one to the other, but they were built consistently in a symmetrical style with angled sides. Some of the temples had spires on their roofs marking each corner. They were fronted with stairs and supported internally by columns.[1]

The species decorated their temples with scrolls and reliefs, and they erected statues of figures with largely Human visages outside.[1] Some of those statues were large, several times larger than a typical Human,[2] whereas others were approximately the same height as Humans.[1]

History

"We tried to dismantle this thing a couple of years ago."
"Dismantle a native temple?"
―Elscol Loro and Wedge Antilles discuss the ruins on Cilpar[src]

The species once inhabited Cilpar,[1] a planet in the southern portion of the Colonies Region near the Rimma Trade Route;[3] however, the species became extinct. By the time the new settlements of Kiidan and Tamarack were established, the immigrants to Cilpar knew little of the species.[1] During the Galactic Civil War, the Cilpari Resistance used some of the temples as weapons depots.[2] One of those Rebels, Elscol Loro, tried to sell parts of a temple to smuggling kingpin Talon Karrde, but the structure proved too difficult to dismantle.[1] The temples were subsequently the site of several skirmishes against the Galactic Empire.[2]

Behind the scenes

Statues outside a Cilpar temple that may resemble the species

This species is only alluded to, but never named, in Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron: The Rebel Opposition, a comic book written by Michael A. Stackpole and Mike Baron and published by Dark Horse Comics in 1995. Several statues built outside their temples appear to be Human, suggesting this may be representative of the builders of the temples.
