The Palpatones
The Palpatones were a band formed from three former members of the Max Rebo Band, which split shortly after death of Jabba the Hutt, with whom they had been in an exclusive contract.[2] Their name was a portmanteau on Palpatine and the word "tone". Building a fanbase in the Outer Rim, the band soon became very successful. Their biggest hit was "Kick the Ranat," which made a star of its lead singer, the Rodian Greeata Jendowanian.[1]
Some time after the Battle of Endor, the Palpatones also went their separate ways; Joh Yowza and Greeata continued performing to great success, while Rystáll Sant quit the group after meeting fellow half-Theelin Shug Ninx on Nar Shaddaa.[2]
Behind the scenes
The Palpatones were the creation of Rich Handley, who introduced them in "Who's Who in the Max Rebo Band" in Star Wars Insider #67. He had previously tried to introduce the name, a pun on "Palpatine," in writings for West End Games, but editors there completely refused. Dave Gross, editor at Star Wars Insider, found the pun to be less objectionable, and to Handley's surprise allowed the reference to make the final cut.[3]
