Staff officer
Staff officer was the term given to Imperial officers assigned to command positions in garrisons and Imperial Army formations. For garrison commands, the Major General in charge was assisted by five staff officers at the rank of High Colonel. They served as the garrison's second in command, the headquarters officer, logistics officer, medical officer, and technical officer. Each staff officer was assisted by a sub-staff officer with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.[1]
