"We don't really want to see the Jedi rise from their graves, do we? The first band was troublesome enough. I won't have our descendants bowing to his, ruled by an oligarchy of spoon benders and readers of auras."
Ta'a Chume[1]

Spoonbender (sometimes spelled as spoon bender) was a derogatory term used to describe a Jedi Knight during the Clone Wars. The expression referred to the ability of a Jedi to telekinetically bend an eating utensil. Such casual use of the Force was frowned upon by the Jedi.[2]

Many years after the Clone Wars, Ta'a Chume, Queen Mother of the Hapes Consortium, would still refer to Force-sensitive individuals as "spoon benders" and "readers of aura". Like many Hapans, she nurtured a strong anti-Jedi sentiment, whence the use of derogatory terms.[1]

Behind the scenes

The name "spoonbender" mirrors the real-life claim of certain "psychics", who report being able to bend objects without physical force.
