Scimitar Squadron (Imperial)
Scimitar Squadron was an elite TIE/sa bomber wing within the Imperial Navy. Led by Major Rhymer, the squadron was tasked with defending the Imperial second Death Star battlestation's shield generator on the Forest Moon of Endor prior to 4 ABY's Battle of Endor, which saw the Death Star's destruction and individual TIE pilots within Scimitar Squadron attempting to escape the station.
History

Scimitar Squadron was an elite TIE/sa bomber wing within the Imperial Navy during the Galactic Civil War fought between the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic.[1] By 4 ABY, prior to the Battle of Endor, the squadron's TIE/sa bombers were stationed in the Endor system and tasked with destroying any ground troops or equipment that might land on the Forest Moon of Endor,[3] which contained the shield generator protecting the Empire's orbiting second Death Star battlestation.[4] At least one of the bombers was stationed on the Death Star.[2] During the Battle of Endor itself, individual TIE pilots within the squadron were aboard the Death Star, and attempted to evacuate the station prior to its destruction.[4]
Organization
Scimitar Squadron contained TIE/sa bombers, which were typically assigned to attack secondary targets and provide cover during bombing runs. The bombers' targeting systems were calibrated to track fast-moving Alliance starfighters.[5]
Members

By 4 ABY,[3] Major Rhymer led Scimitar Squadron. He led the wing during their assignment to protect the Endor shield generator, and flew the bomber Scimitar 1,[1] which was equipped with an advanced targeting system to increase damage during planetary bombardment.[6] Captain Jonus operated Scimitar 2 in the squadron, and often flew as top cover during bombing runs.[7] At some point prior to the Battle of Endor, Scimitar 2 was struck by an asteroid in the Anoat system, before being subsequently repaired. Scimitar 2 was stationed on the Death Star and,[2] as the battlestation suffered damage during the Battle of Endor, both its pilot and Rhymer were among the TIE pilots who attempted to evacuate the station prior to its destruction.[4]
Behind the scenes
Captain Jonus and Major Rhymer first appeared among the TIE pilots attempting to evacuate the Death Star in the 1983 original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.[4] In 2000, the Death Star II Limited expansion set of Decipher, Inc.'s Star Wars Customizable Card Game first named Jonus and Rhymer, alongside their squadron.[1][7]
