Plo Smarx was a scientist working for Hydrospeare Corporation.

The leader of Design Team Beta, Dr. Smarx worked in several projects to develop aquatic military technology for the Galactic Empire.

In 1 ABY, Dr. Smarx was arrested, accused of sedition and espionage. Dr. Tolum Harous replaced Smarx as leader of Design Team Beta.
