Messaging center

Messaging centers were devices that could be used by would-be visitors and solicitors to record and store videonotes for the residents of a household in the event that the residents were unable or unwilling to answer the door. Using an infopanel on the other side of the door, the resident could then play the messages that had been left by the visitors.
