Imperial Decree A-SL-4557.607.232
Imperial Decree A-SL-4557.607.232 was a pivotal piece of Imperial legislation which essentially legalized slavery throughout the galaxy under certain conditions.[1] Under Imperial law, a citizen could be enslaved as punishment for "crimes against the civil order".[2] The document also streamlined the institution, making it easier for slavers and their guilds to carry out their operations, which they confined mainly to the Outer Rim Territories.
Behind the scenes
According to The Essential Atlas, the Galactic Empire outlawed slavery. Later sections of the book indicate that the Empire instituted slavery as a judicial punishment for certain ill-defined crimes.
