A heat detector was a type of sensor.[1] A heat detector functioned by examining energy,[4] such as particles of heat,[2] emitted by another source.[4] Industrial Automaton's R2-series astromech droids were equipped with heat detectors as part of their standard sensor package.[1]
Imperial Stormtroopers were capable of tracking droids with heat detectors due to the heat particles emitted by droid power cells[2]
