Gayle Sertim was a Human female mercenary who led the civilian security force at a hyperbaride synthesis plant on the planet Marca. After the death of the plant's original Managing Director, Arviz Linden, Sertim suspected the involvement of the Empire. The plant's new Imperial managing director, Vost Tyne, noticed Sertim's suspicion and had her killed in shuttle accident. Gayle Sertim's younger sisters, Marci and Darci, were fed a cover story blaming her death on Rebel starfighters.
