Force escort

A force escort or escort force was a formation of the Imperial Navy commanded by a systems admiral. It was comprised of two heavy squadrons, and two light squadrons, for a total average of one hundred and eight starships. Force escort formations were deployed to protect commercially strategic space or installations. They were also deployed to engage small bands of renegades and outlaws, such as pirates.
