Disorientation syndrome was a condition that caused a loss of directional sense and could prevent a sufferer from being able to qualify as a pilot. There were many possible causes of disorientation syndrome, including as the result of a rare, and incurable, disease that affected the brain stem. Breth Gart was a known sufferer, though he eventually overcame the symptoms to become a starfighter pilot for the Rebel Alliance.
