Rust Never Sleeps is a comic first published in The Empire Strikes Back Monthly 156, written by Alan Moore. It was later featured in Classic Star Wars: Devilworlds 2.

Plot summary

C-3PO and R2-D2 pose as inert droids and are taken by a junk hauler to Ronyards where countless broken or malfunctioning droids die. They encounter Fivelines, a droid with many disciples that believe Ronyards to be a god. Threepio warns Fivelines that the Empire is planning to strip Ronyards of its metal and use it for their own purposes. Fivelines unfortunately does not listen and is destroyed when an Imperial Star Destroyer arrives. The droids' "God" then destroy the scout group of stormtroopers and eventually the Star Destroyer itself. Imperial records simply state that there was an accident that caused the Star Destroyer to crash on Ronyards and that all onboard the ship were killed.

Behind the scenes

Rust Never Sleeps was written in Great Britain, so many of the words were spelled differently, occasionally confusing American readers. A few examples are "vapourise" instead of vaporize and "realise" instead of realize.
