Claim jumper
A claim jumper was an independent miner who operated in areas claimed by others, either small-time operations or those controlled by larger mining corporations. Using stealthy techniques, the claim jumper would sneak into the controlled area and target only the most valuable of ores in inactive areas. Skilled claim jumpers could extract tons of ore before being discovered; although many did not risk being found out in the first place. Others who were more daring would continue to load the ore right up until the moment that security forces arrived. Claim jumpers sold their ores to less than reputable dealers. Claim jumpers were a particular problem in the ore-rich Expanse of the Tapani sector.[1]
