"Biggs's death shook Huff. He decided he wanted more heirs. His second wife decided she wasn't interested in having any more than the one she'd already borne. She left, and Huff married me."
Lanal Darklighter[1]

The Darklighter family was a Human family native to the planet Tatooine, descended from Daggath Darklighter of Cerea.[2] Its members included:

Gavin Darklighter adopted two sons following the end of the Thrawn campaign. He later married the social worker, Sera Faleur, who helped him through the adoption process, and they had three biological children: first a daughter, then a son, then another daughter.[5]

History

"It'll be like old times, Luke. They'll never stop us."
―Biggs Darklighter to Luke Skywalker, shortly before the Battle of Yavin, where he met his death[6]

The most well-known Darklighter was Biggs Darklighter, friend of Luke Skywalker, member of the Rebel Alliance, and pilot of a X-wing during the Battle of Yavin. His wingmen included his old friend Luke and Wedge Antilles. Unfortunately, Biggs met his death when Darth Vader opened fire on him while he was flanking Luke in the Death Star trench.[7]

Behind the scenes

The first mention of anyone named Darklighter is in the person of Seig Darklighter, commonly believed to be the leader of the Jedi Rebellion, in the rough draft of Episode IV. The name Darklighter again appears in the second draft. This draft tells the story of a Padawan who abandons his Master after coming under the influence of the dark side of the Force (referred to as the Bogan).[8]

A man named "Darklighter" served at Echo Base on the planet Hoth in 3 ABY. He evacuated Hoth aboard the GR-75 medium transport Bright Hope, the final transport to escape the planet. After the transport was disabled trying to run the Imperial blockade, he reached the planet Darlyn Boda with the other surviving members of the ship, before being one of just six of those survivors to finally reach the secret Rebel rendezvous point due to his importance to the Rebellion. He served aboard the EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate Redemption immediately thereafter. It is unknown if this man is related to the Tatooinian Darklighter family.[9]
