An empire of the Hutts arose sometime following the Battle of Endor. Despite pretense of legitimacy, as with the former Hutt Cartel, it used organized crime to rule.
Despite this, the Hutt Empire was considered a galactic power until 26 ABY when it was pushed out of Hutt Space by the Yuuzhan Vong after being overrun during their invasion.
