- "Druckenwell is an avowed member of the Trade Federation, with whom—in case you haven't noticed—we are currently at war."
- ―A female baggage attendant at Chance Palp to Jai Maruk
Druckenwell was an industrial world in the Doldur sector, on the Corellian Run. A Trade Federation world, it was loyal to the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. It was best known for a BlasTech weapons manufacturing complex that was located there.
Description
Druckenwell was located in a star system in the Doldur sector of the Mid Rim.[1] An overcrowded urban world governed by corporate guilds, Druckenwell's several large cities and industrial regions were divided by vast oceans, and almost all of the planet's available land had been developed. As a result, great care was taken to reduce the risk of pollution and to protect the planet's few remaining resources. Druckenwell's 9.3 billion inhabitants were mostly workers for the massive corporations on-world.[3]
Druckenwell's cities were planned with social and corporate order in mind and had specific zones for different worker classes—blue-collar districts, business offices, industrial areas, and a handful of pleasant parks and gardens for the corporate elite. Couples could not legally marry until they could prove themselves financially self-sufficient.[3] The capital city of Il Avali housed Happy's Landing tavern and the I'att Armament complex, where a personal shielding device to protect stormtrooper armor from blaster fire was developed. Druckenwell was also home to the corporate offices for SGI Systems, Inc., a major producer of black-market assassin droid components.
History
Old Republic era
- "A decade ago, I served under Moff Broysc at the Battle of Druckenwell. Moff Broysc made a critical oversight that brought the fleet to the brink of complete defeat. I ignored his order and turned the tide to victory."
- ―Captain Malavai Quinn, to the Empire's Wrath
In 3653 BBY, during the Great Galactic War between the Galactic Republic an the Sith Empire, a major battle occurred above the planet. Moff Broysc, the Imperial commanding officer, made a critical mistake during the battle, but one of his subordinates disobeyed the orders and returned the advantage to the Empire, resulting in a Republic defeat.[6]
During the New Sith Wars, the planet was the site of a battle won by the Jedi.[2]
Clone Wars
During the Clone Wars, Druckenwell, already a Trade Federation world, was held by the CIS as a foundry world, a status it was keen to maintain. Jedi Master Jai Maruk was from the world, and so struggled to prove his loyalty when dealing with those unaware of his Jedi status.[4]
Imperial occupation
- "Surely you've followed events at Glova, Glom Tho and Druckenwell? The Empire no longer exists, and its warlords are in retreat throughout the Trailing Sectors."
- ―Senator Leia Organa, to Moff Quarsh Panaka
During the Rebel Alliance's early days, Rahm Kota and Juno Eclipse cooperated in a raid on the Imperial presence on Druckenwell, one of a string of hit-and-run attacks that also took in Kuat, Selonia, and Cato Neimoidia.[7]
When Imperial Moff Eisen Kerioth tried to claim the energy shield as his own invention just prior to the Battle of Yavin, Tinian I'att (young heiress of the I'att Corporation) escaped with the shielding device components and fled Druckenwell with the help of Twilit Hearth's musical band. Tinian's lover Daye Azur-Jamin managed to destroy the I'att Armament complex and its Imperial invaders, but was almost killed in the effort. Sometime after the Battle of Yavin, Imperial officials nationalized SGI Systems, Incorporated along with several other droid corporations, giving them control of the Mid Rim droid market.
By 4 ABY, Druckenwell had become an Imperial fortress world. The planet was targeted by the New Republic in the months following the Battle of Endor.[2]
Later history
- "I guess Druckenwell's gone, too?"
"And Falleen. They've reached Rodia. It's the heavy end of the hammer, pounding and pounding." - ―Jacen and Jaina Solo
Later a member state of the New Republic, Druckenwell was conquered by the extragalactic Yuuzhan Vong during their attempt to conquer the galaxy[5] in 26 ABY. While a small percentage of the population was evacuated aboard the freighter Chilastra and other ships, those left behind were forced into labor camps after offering up little resistance to the invaders. These individuals were tasked with dismantling Druckenwell's cities and using arable land to grow Yuuzhan Vong foodstuffs. Following the Yuuzhan Vong's defeat in 29 ABY, Druckenwell was located in Galactic Alliance space, and remained an Alliance member state during the Second Galactic Civil War between 40 and 41 ABY. As of 137 ABY, Druckenwell was located in territory controlled by Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire.[2]
