An AE-35 was a kind of repulsorlift unit. The AE-35 required at least six rocker-panel cotter pins to operate.
Behind the scenes
The Star Wars AE-35 unit is really an Easter egg, because "AE-35 unit" is the name of the element of the Discovery One spacecraft that is believed to be malfunctioning in the "Jupiter Mission" segment of 2001: A Space Odyssey.
